Let's talk about it

Ok for those of us who have finished Sara's Key and want to talk about it here it is. Post a comment and tell us what you thought!! If  you haven't read it don't click on the comments so it won't be ruined for you! I really hope you all enjoyed the book.

August

"The set up down there looks vaguely like the Texas Longhorns logo."  HAHAHAHA!!! I loved this book!! Tina Fey was so open about her life and all the little things she thinks about herself. She put down how she sees herself and it reminds us that she is not just some big superstar actress but a normal woman dealing with her own job, wife, motherhood problems just like the rest of us.
I like the part in the book where she is talking about all the things that the media has deemed appropriate for women in the looks department and how she compares that to her self. She points out that if she never trimmed her eyebrows they would grow straight across her forehead and onto yours. I also liked the part where she listed all the things you should not have as a woman according to the media and I have to say that I love the term "crotch biscuits." Not only is it funny but I think the word "biscuit" has a whole new meaning to our little group :)
It was interesting to see how she developed as a comedian and how she was able to climb her way up to where she is now. How she came up with the idea of 30 Rock and the characters, and how she has used some of her experiences in the show. I was watching one the other day where she walked passed one of the guys office and saw all the jars of pee. It made me giggle thinking back on that part of the book.
Thank you Tina Fey for putting yourself out there for all of us to enjoy. We truly enjoyed reading your book and laughed along with you. Well played Miss Fey, well played!

                     The Help

You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important........

Where do we start? I think it is safe to say that we all loved The Help. Bringing to life the view of 2 main characters, and some of Minny thrown in on the side, gave us a look at times in the south in the 1960's.
Reading about how the maids were treated and how they were reguarded as being deseased is appaling to me. It was so easy to hate Miss Hilly so much because she was the picture perfect Southern Belle snob. I love that Skeeter was able to see that Hilly's thinking was wrong and that she wanted to help turn things around. I can't imagine what it would have been like for someone like Skeeter to live during that time and have to keep quiet about how you feel on that subject. I for one would have been tarred and feathered and probably hung from a tree.
I love how Aibleen found the strength to talk to Skeeter and to keep on the other maids to share their stories too. When the others were sharing it was nice to read that not all of them had experiences like Minny. That some of them worked for good families and were treated good.
The movie was also good aside from a few things I had pictured different in my mind. 1. Constantine was supposed to look like Aunt Jamima and she looked like a little old homeless lady with no teeth, and 2. Her daughter was a little on the dark side. I love how the relationship between Minny and Miss Celia was brought out on screen. Minny being so fiesty and opionated and Miss Celia just being a little stupid.
Overall a good book I think we all gave it 5 stars on good reads!!

June and July?

Ok I might be totally crazy but I can't think of the books we did for June and July! I know we met her at my house in July for the Weenie Roast and Book Theif.  I think we got a little behind and now we are catching up. If that is true than I will skip to August and The Help!
If I am wrong please let me know so I can add those books!

Hey ladies!!! I am so glad we decided to start blogging about our fun times together. Because what is better than leaving a web trail of all our shenanigans? Nothing I tell you!! I would like to just make one little point before we get started. Lisa, please don't judge my horrible grammar and writing skills :) Now I do apologize for taking so long on getting this going. But I just want you all to know that I did fast and pray ( I am still waiting for my stickers to come in the mail from the BYU football team) and I think you will all like it!
I just want to say that I am so glad that I have all you ladies in my life. I think we all complement each other and lets face it we are some HOT BITCHES!! With all that said I am ready to get going and bring us up to date. Let's get this party started!!
